Monster jars are a new project that started during a class demonstration. I was showing
my students the technique of making a closed form, where one essentially makes a vase
shape and continues to close off the opening until the piece is a sealed form. One woman
asked "But what do you do with it?"
I had used this technique in the past to make my first lidded jars, allowing the piece to dry
and then cutting it open. After mentioning this and getting a lukewarm reception, I
suggested that it could be a decorative item, noting that my demonstration piece looked a
little like a small creature already. This conversation has led to out-of control monster jar
making on my part.
Oh, and we also did pumpkins last fall...
